Call it a case of morbid fascination but I had to look up lingua villosa nigra when I read about,I just couldn't get a mental picture of what a hairy black tongue could possibly look like,providing such a thing actually existed. Not only does this malady exist the reality of the pictures are worse than any mental image I might have conjured. Though the exact cause is unknown it is believed that antibiotics,poor oral hygiene,smoking,alcohol and the use of mouthwash are contributory . Treatment usually entails brushing or scraping the tongue and the application of various preparations. The coloration of the afflicted tongue can vary.
