The myth behind the Sedlec Ossuary is twofold, the first explanation is a monk went mad and made things from human bones, the second part is partially blind monks entrusted with the care of the chapel began piling bones into geometric patterns. In 1870 a woodcarver was commissioned by the landowners to decorate the chapel with bones as a reminder of the impermanence of life and the inescapable death. And decorate he did,the rest as they say is history! Kind of creepy but kind of cool if you can put the medium of the art aside.
