This is a little off today's topic but that's never stopped me before...did you know the color orange was named after the fruit, not the other way around? Since we are already talking orange how about carrots not becoming orange until the 17th century? Before the orange carrots we know today their color was mainly purple. The modern orange carrot was made by crossing mutated white and yellow carrots along with several varieties of wild carrots. The reason the orange carrot became popular is it was sweeter, more nutritious (more beta carotene) and a tribute to the House of Orange. There are also types of carrots for every letter of the alphabet with the exception of the letter X but I think they could come up with a new type of white carrot and call it x-ray.
