Oh Nuts!

I know allergies are nothing to sneeze at (sorry, couldn't resist) and can be deadly but sometimes the warning labels meant to be helpful in preventing allergic reactions leave a person wondering who comes up with this stuff? For instance Aldi recently issued a recall for Clancy's Barbecue Flavor Coated Peanuts because the package didn't say it contained nuts. No brainer, right? Well not exactly since technically peanuts are a legume not a nut but the recall was issued because cashews may have been in with the peanuts. The most common food allergy is to peanuts but apparently those unfortunate people who are allergic to cashews, almonds and walnuts have a more severe reaction. It seems to me the more the governments tighten up the rules on food packaging the more confusing it becomes for the consumer.
