Blast from the Past

Today is the 56th birthday of the Hula Hoop, if that date seems too recent to some of you old-timers that's because today marks the date it was patented. It was 1958 when Wham-O founders Arthur "Spud" Melin and Richard Knerr came up with the idea of a circular hoop made of plastic. It turned out to be a pretty good idea as they sold 25 million in the first four months and the rest as they say is history.
