Medicinal Purposes

Originally ketchup didn't contain tomatoes but was made of fish and mushrooms and sold as a snake oil/cure all. It wasn't until 1834 that tomatoes were added to the concoction because of their many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. In an attempt to both make more money and make ketchup more accessible they started making tomato pills which is when things started to come apart as the business rivals wanted a piece of the tomato pill action and started labeling and selling laxatives as tomato pills. Today's ketchup is still a little bit good for you though to see any real benefits a person would have to consume it by the gallon. I highly recommend taking out the middle man and just eating the tasty tomatoes by themselves or however you prefer to eat them.
