Anyone who has ever had the hiccups knows how annoying they can be...can you imagine having hiccups for 68 years? I didn't think a person would be able to live that long with the hiccups, but I'm not sure where I got that idea. Charles Osborne was weighing a 350 pound hog for butchering when he fell down with the hog on top of him. A doctor later examined him and told him a blood vessel had burst in his brain, the tiny vessel was what had inhibited his hiccup response.
The poor guy hiccuped an average of 40 times per minute in the beginning but gradually lessened to 20 times a minute until they mysteriously quit about a year before his death, resulting in an estimated 430 million hiccups in his lifetime. Can you imagine having the hiccups that long and trying to do normal everyday things, like sleeping and eating?? Did I mention his place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest bout of hiccups?
