The More Things Change

Putting the recent struggles with the post office out of the equation (politically speaking) it is somewhat startling to see them making deliveries on Sundays. As often is the case serendipity came into play when I read that up until 1912 the postal service made regular Sunday deliveries, not to mention the offices were also open allowing people in outlying areas to do their business with the post office when they made their weekly trip into town to attend church. Speaking of churches, in the 1820s they tried to force the post office to close on Sunday because of the working on the Sabbath thing though they didn't gain enough traction to make it happen.
