PSA

Perhaps it's time for an update to the pre-flight safety speech given by flight attendants. It hasn't varied much since at least the early 70s,maybe longer? The reason I suggest it may be time for a change involves cell phones, not the use of them but that they can be a fire hazard. If the phone is dropped into the seat and becomes lodged an attendant should be informed as the lithium battery when compressed becomes a fire hazard. This has already happened numerous times on different airlines causing emergency landings and the use of fire extinguishers. The Australian Civil Aviation Authority issued a warning in 2018 on the danger and even though there have been incidents in the US I've yet to hear a warning so I decided bringing it to your attention was the least I could do. You're welcome!
