Blue Beer

For those of you enjoying the festivities of St. Patrick's Day with all the green trimmings you might be interested to hear the color green came along later. Since around the 10th century the Saint's death has been celebrated on March 17th but the color green was not included. The earliest depictions of St. Patrick had him in blue robes another early myth featured a woman (Gormfhlaith) which translates to blue sovereign who was also clothed in blue, plus the early flag of Ireland was a golden harp on a blue background, even later in the 18th century when the "Order of St. Patrick" was established the official color was blue. During one of the many bloody rebellions the flag was altered to a green background and for reasons to numerous to list but mainly to show the Irish spirit of rebellion the green became part of the Irish independence movement and remains so today.
