The rhyme April showers bring May flowers is inaccurate at best for several reasons. The original meaning referred to the flowers used on May Day celebrations so they were already blooming in April but hey, poetic license and all that! Then there's that pesky fact that it isn't the rain that dictates when flowers bloom but the temperature that brings on the blooms. There's also the fact that April isn't the rainiest month of the year, in most areas that honor goes to June. That brings us to applying the rhyme worldwide where it loses all creditability with April being the driest month in Ireland plus Australia as well as other countries in the southern hemisphere have their springs in September and October which passes for our autumn. Just because it's a rhyme we've heard most of our lives doesn't make it fact.
