Entertainment options have certainly changed since the 1800s but humans are still pretty much a morbid bunch. Before modern dentistry teeth pulling was mostly put on like a side show for the enjoyment of the masses. Charlatan tooth drawers would travel to fairs and marketplaces with a noisy entourage, wearing silly hats and sometimes necklaces made of teeth to draw in a group of spectators to watch their performance. If a person had a bad tooth the alternatives to the tooth carnival weren't much better. The choices being between a barber or a blacksmith, both who used a clawed device called a tooth key. Just a reminder....Don't forget to floss!
