Have any of you noticed the hype concerning dying eggs for Easter being too expensive and instead suggesting potatoes as the alternative to eggs? It makes me think someone must have started that whole thought as an April Fools joke since the price works out to be about the same with eggs being slightly cheaper if a person went with gold potatoes which is the suggestion, so strike that as a reason, not to mention that there are several methods listed for dying the potatoes mostly involving food coloring so they will turn out edible which brings me to my final question...okay, eggs have shells that protect the edible inside of the egg so there isn't a lot of concern about hiding them either outside or inside and having them covered in germs rendering them inedible, see where I'm going with this? Plus if you have pets that think you are leaving food for them there will be nothing there to find when the kids go to search for the (potato) eggs and of course there's the grubby little hands to consider. All in all potatoes don't make a good substitute for Easter eggs.
