Flipper

For those of you who don't know the word flipper was also the name of a TV program (1964-1967) about a dolphin (Flipper) who helped enforce regulations at a park in Florida. With that little tidbit out of the way onward to some dolphin fun facts I happened upon. Dolphin squeaks, whistles and other assorted  sounds are their language including names for each other, according to researchers. I've actually seen dolphins sleeping but had to be told that was what they are doing as they only shut down half of their brain when they sleep so one eye remains open while the other side is closed and asleep. I saved the best for last...dolphins can suffer significant tissue damage like from shark attacks and completely grow the tissue back within 30 days. They stem the blood loss, don't get infected and don't seem to suffer pain from injuries. More reasons to love those dolphins!
