Exercise Your Fear

If you're a fan of  scary movies this may be your lucky day! According to a study conducted in 2012 those heart pounding moments of terror can cause a person to burn at least 133 calories which is more than a 140 lb. person uses on a brisk 30 minute walk. Though the study wasn't intensive the results are still valid tracing back to our primitive ancestors and their flight or fight responses to things that go bump. The following are a few of the movies used in the study and the amount of calories burned by each: "The Shining" (184), "Jaws" (161), "The Exorcist" (158) and "Alien" (152). There are also benefits after the scare is over from releasing endorphins and dopamine allowing a relaxed feeling from surviving the event.
