Milking It

With the wide variety of milk these days it should come at little to no surprise that an egg laying amphibian in South America produces a milk like liquid filled with fats and carbohydrates to feed their hatchlings and did I mention it comes from their butts? Actually there are several non mammals that produce what passes for milk, pigeons,  penguins, and flamingos have the ability to make crop milk that comes from their stomach linings. Some spiders and cockroaches also make milk like substances for their young. The ringed caecilian goes a step further to nourish their offspring, the mother's fatty outer skin changes color which signals the young to gnaw it off of her at no harm to the mom and nutritional value for them. Another interesting aside is these creatures are mainly found around cacao plantations which are the source of chocolate. Squirm on!
