Have you ever wondered how the iconic Twinkies got their name? Go back in time to 1930 when money was tight, James Dewar was trying to think of some way to use the pans for strawberry shortcake so they didn't sit idle and take up space once strawberry season was over. He came up with small cream filled cakes but then he needed a name to market them. Not long after inventing the snack he noticed a sign for Twinkle Toes Shoes and decided if he shortened the name and made it more kid friendly it would work nicely and Twinkies were born. They took off at 2 for a nickel and though there have been other changes over the years the name has remained the same.
