Job or Hobby?

Let me make it clear before I get started today that customs vary from country to country and I am in no way saying these people aren't entitled to perform their customs and ceremonies as they see fit.
A Good Friday tradition in the Philippines is a reenactment of the Crucifixion. Several other countries also celebrate with a reenactment but the difference is the celebration in the Philippines uses real nails  on the people playing the parts of Jesus and the thieves. The people playing the parts consider it a great honor and the man playing Jesus has been playing the part for 32 years. He claimed to feel no pain at all this year which he credited to his strong Catholic faith. Incidentally the church tolerates the ritual but does not support the gory display of devotion.
