Punk Turtle

I've always enjoyed turtles they just seem so amiable which is probably partly the reason many of them are endangered. I had never heard of the Mary River Turtle until today when I noticed a Newsweek article about the endangered Australian reptile. As the name suggests they live only in the Mary River and if their photos aren't odd enough they also have some other unusual characteristics such as they can stay submerged for up to 72 hours because they can breath underwater through their genitals, and they do not mature sexually until around 25 years which adds to their endangerment. It is heartbreaking to think of losing any species especially when it can be prevented.
