Sunshine, friend or foe? to tan or not to tan? Over the centuries the thoughts on tanning have evolved,in earlier times having tanned skin was undesirable because it was associated with the working class but with no sunscreen in those days the only option was to keep covered and out of the sun. Then in 1923 that little black dress lady,Coco Chanel, got tanned on a Mediterranean cruise and the tanning trend began, plus earlier in the 20th century doctors were advising patients with various complaints to take some sun. Fast forward to the 1960s when the connection to sunburn/tanning was connected to skin cancer and the birth of SPF lotions. Today another consideration is causing the sun protection businesses to reformulate their various concoctions as they have been connected to coral bleaching/die off in our oceans so now that needs to become part of the tanning equation as well. Our collective inattention to details is finally coming home to roost. Be careful out there!
