More Archaic Traditions

Another tradition that seems barbaric at best takes place on the 4th of July,Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. I get it that hot dogs are part of the menu on the 4th but who decided it was a good idea to gorge on them? and who would want to watch that? Straight from a doctor there are several dangers involved, first is the choking hazard since hot dogs are often choked on even when not being consumed at high speed,in addition there are permanent changes to the stomach when it is expanded in a short period of time, think of it like a hair tie that is at the end of its usefulness because the elasticity is gone plus I would think it could seriously mess with a person's blood sugar and all for what? Bragging rights (not sure why anyone would want to brag about it) and $10,000 to the winning man and winning woman. Doesn't seem like much of a reward considering the risks, and never mind eating buns dipped in water that's enough to gag a person just thinking about it. On the plus side Nathan's contributes 100,000 hot dogs to the New York City Food Bank.
