Many cultures have beliefs in various animals bringing good luck,in the UK and the US that animal used to be the rabbit but in today's anti cruelty society carrying a rabbit's foot is frowned on and I had never heard of waking up on the 1st day of a month and whispering "rabbit,rabbit,rabbit,which was supposed to bring good luck for the following month though maybe it's a regional thing? In Germany the lucky animal is a pig as owning a large number of pigs signified wealth and prosperity as they would never go hungry. Pigs remain a good luck symbol and the phrase "schwein gehabt" translates literally to "got pig" but also means "got lucky".
