With a nod to the Labor Day holiday the male Japanese pufferfish works for 24 hours straight and some times days on end to make art to attract a mate. The 5 inch long fish using his fins forms an intricate 6 1/2 foot design in the sand then waits for a female to come along and approve his design which is also decorated with shells in some instances. The center of the design is raised from the outer part allowing the female to lay her eggs there and the male to fertilize them,he then guards the eggs until they hatch and the design is swept away by currents. Poor guy all that work and he doesn't even get overtime!
