Pay Up Pete

A Los Angeles man is suing Texas Pete Hot Sauce for not being made in Texas. The class action lawsuit alleges false advertising leading consumers to believe it was made in Texas not only because of the name but also the white star and red cartoon cowboy on the label looking distinctly Texan. The sauce has been made in North Carolina since 1929 and though not directly tied to the Lone Star State was named to mimic and capitalize on Texas' reputation for hot sauces. The first suggested name was "Mexican Joe" but it was turned down because they wanted something American so they decided on Texas and the owners son's nickname,Pete. Seems like if it mattered that it came from Texas that much he could have read the whole label and simply not bought it.
