Plain as the nose on your face should read as obvious as the nose on your face since your nose is far from plain. Not only can it smell up to 1 trillion odors it can also trap harmful debris and conditions the air you breath before it enters your respiratory system. Then there are the fun nose facts...everyone has a dominant nostril that sucks in the majority of air you breath, that same nostril unfortunately is also the one that plugs up first with a cold or allergies. The size of your nostrils are determined by evolution in that if your ancestors came from a warm humid climate your nostrils will be larger as they won't need to humidify the air before it enters your lungs but if the distant relatives are from a cold dry climate your nostrils will be smaller to allow the air to be mixed inside your nose before entering the lungs. Turns out even breathing is more complicated than it seems.
