This might be good news for urban areas with pollution problems but it still seems a bit on the creepy side. Belgrade is one of those cities with bad pollution problems so a group of researchers developed Liquid Trees which are green, goopy 158 gallon tanks with microalgae and water that capture carbon dioxide and create oxygen via photosynthesis. One bioreactor can do the work of a ten year old tree when it comes to cleaning up the air though the tanks will never be able to do all the other things trees do like reduce erosion, enrich soil, prevent flooding and purify groundwater. It's just plain creepy because some greedy @$$hole will decide we can do without trees and all we will be left with is tanks of green goop, nope I just can't be happy and think of this as an advancement.
