Here are some fun facts about past presidents for today: Thomas Jefferson was obsessed with mammoths and warned Lewis and Clark to watch out for them when he sent them to explore the wild west. James and Dolley Madison helped popularize ice cream but their favorites were questionable, chestnut, asparagus, parmesan and Dolley's favorite, oyster. Lieutenant James Monroe actually was the head of an advance unit and crossed the Delaware before Washington and was then shot in the shoulder by a Hessian solider. Funny business with voting was going on as far back as the election of 1824 when Andrew Jackson received 99 electoral votes, John Quincy Adams 84, William H. Crawford earned 41 and Henry Clay claimed 37 only to see the Adams chosen as president by the House of Representatives.
