Thank Mr. Ford

If you are enjoying a three day weekend Henry Ford is partially responsible for your extra day. Until Ford studied productivity and the technology available in 1926 and instituted the 40 hour work week the average hours worked per week varied from 48-60. Ford predicted that in the future as we made more advancements the work week would become even shorter. He was right and he was wrong, many places manage to conduct their business during a four day week, better for both productivity and employees, but several jobs now require employees to be on call for any crisis and often those people end up working well beyond a 40 hour week.
Personally even though I enjoyed having an extra day off before I retired it seemed to put me out of sync for the rest of the week and still hampers me now with no work week in the equation. Who says you can teach an old dog new tricks?
