I was prepared to do another pharmaceutical company bashing in today's post as I had read that there is an antiviral drug that can prevent HIV infections with a 99% success rate but doctors are not prescribing it because they don't know about it,but that isn't exactly the problem. The problem is with the patients who need the drug, not that I am blaming them for their choices, but the ones who have prescriptions for Truvada don't take it on a regular basis. It seems to me if there is a pill a person can take once a day to protect themselves from an ugly disease that they would be all over it,but they aren't. Researchers who tested the drug found the test subjects were not taking it on a daily basis and chalked it up to the fact that these same people weren't likely to use condoms or other forms of protection either. Kind of makes it hard to feel bad for people if they enjoy engaging in Russian Roulette.
