Picking the Prettiest

When a person thinks of a beauty pageant camels are not normally the first thing to come to mind, but in Saudi Arabia they hold an annual beauty pageant for camels. In the US and other countries shows are held to judge domesticated animals against the standard expected of a breed whether dog,cat or what have you. The camel beauty pageant is judged on untouched natural beauty, curly hair, pert ears, long lashes and high, perfectly positioned hump. Around 300,000 animals compete in the pageant for a grand prize of 25 million pounds (around 32 million American dollars),and the winner is also dusted  with saffron (any wonder it's so expensive!).
The world's most beautiful camel will be crowned with a staggering £25 million prize at the King Abdulaziz Camels Festival later this month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
More than 300,000 of the desert animals will descend on Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to be judged on their features - and even temperament
Various features considered most beautiful to each breed are closely assessed to determine the deserving winners - including the size of the camel's head, whether the lips cover the teeth, the length of its neck, to the roundness of its hump.
Winning camels have become highly desirable, fetching millions of pounds in price whilst also leading to dramatic increase in prices of camels across the stock market.
