Don't be too disappointed by Phil the groundhogs prediction of 6 more weeks of winter even though our west coast prognosticator,Filbert (Fil) the beaver concurred with Phil as they both have less than stellar correct predictions,somewhere around 39%. What I've always thought seemed backwards was seeing a shadow means more winter so I checked how that works and didn't get a definite answer but the offered answers were,Candlemas Day (February 2nd) which falls midway between the beginning and end of winter has a proverb that warned against undue optimism,don't get your hopes up just because it is sunny today. Also groundhogs stay out of their den if it's cloudy but run back to their den if it is sunny showing that more cold weather is coming. Bottom line,it's more for entertainment purposes than accurate weather predictions.
