Even with understanding that Colossal (a biotechnology startup) isn't a government funded outfit it is still distressing to hear of their plans to raise $1 billion to fund a project to develop a gene edited organism to match the extinct Dodo. The process will insert the modified cell into a bird egg cell with the fertilized egg expected to harbor dodo reproductive cells. In a perfect world this would be good news but the current world is far from perfect and that money could be better spent in several other areas instead of bringing back into existence another animal only to have it die from pollution/climate change. It just seems wrong on so many levels but maybe it's just me.
