Early Banking

In case you were wondering how the piggy bank came into being,I just happen to have that story.
No one invented the piggy bank,it owes its origin more to the history of language than an inventor. In old English the word pygg referred to a type of orange clay. The clay was used to make dishes and other useful objects including jars to hold change. One of two things happened next, either someone thought to make a pygg jar shaped like a pig,or maybe the potter misunderstood the order and thought they wanted a pig shaped jar. Another theory suggests that the piggy bank acquired the name because it was fed scraps and leftovers of change until it was fat enough to be smashed,as the hole on the bottom was yet to be invented.
