Someday I may sit down and compile a list of the world's weirdest festivals, but today is not that day. While most festivals may seem obscure,if you look hard enough you can usually find other events devoted to the same thing, not so with the Gumboot Day. Gumboot Day occurs the Tuesday after Easter in Taihape,New Zealand. The aim of the festival is to break the world record for the longest gumboot throw. It also includes a number of other competitions such as best dressed gumboot, shoot the loop with gumboots, gumboot art,dog barking, lawnmower races, baa black sheep racing, along with typical food and craft offerings. In case you aren't familiar with what a gumboot is,it is what we call a rubber boot or wader in the U.S. It was a new on to me and we all know how I love the unusual!
