Pads

For a three letter word pad has many meanings and can be used as a noun or a verb, though I've never cared for it as a verb and don't use it to refer to my own walking movement. As a noun it can refer to a cushion, something to write on,living quarters, the underpart of the foot of some animals and a broad floating leaf. Today let's turn our attention to the broad flat leaf. The average Victoria Giant Water Lily is 6 feet across with the largest around 10 feet and each lily can have 10 pads at a time taking up a total of 30 feet. The chance of having seen one in a backyard pond are pretty slim. The leaves unfurl about 2 feet a day and once they are fully open they can support a small man. I had never seen anything like these pads and figured a lot of other people had been missing out as well...so here they are in all their hugeness!
