If you have always longed to be King or Queen it may be easier than you think...that is if you don't mind being Hobo Royalty. To be an eligible candidate for King you must be currently riding the rails or have ridden them for at least 5 years,attended the Hobo Convention (Britt,Iowa) at least 3 times,be screened by a committee of former Kings and not have been King in the last 3 years. Along with that a gift of gab and campaign signs are helpful. Queens have an easier time in the selection process,candidates for Queen must have attended the Hobo Convention 3 times and actively contribute to the betterment of the hobo community,they do not have to ride the rails and are not screened. If you qualify for either position you have to sign up before the end of the second night of the convention. Along with a parade there are several other events and the candidates all give 30 second speeches,then the big moment comes when the King and Queen are chosen by the people of Britt and the hobos according the who receives the loudest applause.
