Have you ever given any thought to what happens to the trash from international flights? I hadn't until I read about a system Green Bay has in place that essentially autoclaves the garbage. At this point you may be wondering why trash needs to be clean, the short answer is to keep out plant and animal disease that has yet to be introduced into our country and of course it is also regulated by the USDA and CBP (Customs and Border Protection). The disposal of the international trash is often times an overlooked expense and more complicated than one would expect to the extent that before the garbage gets sterilized it first has to be placed in a specially colored bag. Since I'm on the subject of trash, why is it that the flight attendants all seem to say trash with a heavy sibilant end? I'm thinking it must be to let people know they are coming to collect trash, but it sounds like a bunch of snakes hissing up and down the aisles, not that I'm complaining as it must be a trying job.
