I had never heard of the Hambone Award until today when I read about one of the contestants for this years award,a Great Dane who ate a pair of jeans and had to have them surgically removed. Nationwide Insurance holds the contest yearly for pets who get into unusual predicaments. I don't know for sure if the pets have to be insured by Nationwide in order to participate,but the several I read about all had insurance. Other entries include a Giant Schnauzer with a habit of stealing items and hiding them took an asthma inhaler and accidentally bit into it. A Border Collie with a rage against vacuum cleaners lost her front teeth doing battle with one. The contest also includes cats,a Sphynx cat from Texas hid in a recliner and was crushed when it closed on her. If you would like to vote for this years choices go to Nationwide Hambone Award.
