No ponies were harmed in the writing of this post! Actually the pony reference is how the French word "bidet" came to be. The French invented the bidet in the 1600s to be used for cleansing after using the chamber pot,at that time the bidet was a basin set into a wooden frame which a person mounted to make washing easier. Over time as indoor plumbing became common bidets started doing the washing/spraying on their own. Both the British and North Americans associated bidets with sin since they had been used in brothels and by women who were having their menstrual cycle. Which brings us to the great toilet paper shortage and how bidets are finally finding their way into our more prudish homes. If you're still not sure a bidet is right for you and don't want to continue killing trees just to wipe your butt consider using either bamboo or hemp toilet paper and leave the trees to clean up our air.
