Ask and ye shall receive! Yesterday I posed a question about pronunciations and today I found at least a partial answer,though it doesn't apply directly to the words shore/sure (shoo r, shur) and ax/ask. Many dictionaries have begun adding mispronunciations of words that are widely mispronounced and then marking the mispronunciation as common,but not standard. It seems like kind of a cop out to me but their argument was if the well educated (read former presidents) pronounce a word a certain way, then they include additional pronunciations. Ah,you've got to love the English language!
