I'd like to point out for those of you who are keeping track that today's slice of weirdness did not happen in Florida! A former village court judge in Seneca County,NY (apparently no law degree is required for the position) was convicted of falsifying business records,insurance fraud,falsely reporting an incident and defrauding the government. He falsely claimed that two men attacked him from behind as he was leaving his courtroom. They hit him over the head with a toilet tank lid and choked him,according to what he told the officers. The problem with his plan was he had no injuries,but that didn't stop him from spending 9 days in the hospital on a pain pump. Doctors and nurses testified at the trial that the patient had no sign of external or internal injury. On closer inspection his medical records revealed he had been on pain pills for lower back pain and had filed 20-30 previous insurance claims for accidents. Needless to say he will be spending some time in prison and with any luck he might even kick the prescription drug habit.
