Down and Dirty

I don't remember if I did a post about kids that grow up in really clean environments tend to have more allergies as adults,or if I just read about it and thought that it made sense. Today is about microbes found in soil that have similar effects on depression as the chemical concoction in Prozac. The bacteria stimulate serotonin production making a person more relaxed and happier. Lack of serotonin has been linked to depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and bipolar problems. The best part of this good news is you don't need to take a pill or pay money to reap the benefits, relief can be as close as digging in the dirt! Just ask in avid gardener where their happy place is and they will tell you it's in their garden and science is ready to back up their claims. So get out their and get dirty!
