Today when we think about medical practices from the 1700s they all seem pretty barbaric, but for the most part the doctors weren't thought of as quacks as they were only practicing the cures that were thought helpful at the time, whether that was leeches or whatever else seemed to get results. Dr. Graham however preyed on the couples with sexual dysfunctions and oddly enough he had some success with his bizarre treatments. He was best known for his Temple of Hymen which featured the Celestial Bed. The bed was over-sized (9X12 feet) and strange as it may seem electrified. The bed sat on glass rods and the mattress was stuffed with herbs and the hair of stallions. The bed was thought to insure conception for those seeking heirs,it apparently worked well enough to keep him in business,or maybe it was a mind over matter for his patients?
