If you live in an area with a 7-Eleven store you can go in for a free Slurpee today,some stores also offer other 7-Eleven freebies like popcorn,cookies and jelly beans. There are no 7-Eleven stores in my area but that is okay as I am not a Slurpee fan. The give away is billed as their birthday,but I didn't find any information that indicated today's date in regard to their opening,the only reference to 7-Eleven I found was the hours they were originally open. The Slurpee was actually an accidental invention that happened at a Dairy Queen when the soda fountain went out. The owner put a few bottles of soda in the freezer and the customers loved the half frozen pop,so he built a machine with an old car air conditioning unit and called the finished product an Icee. In North America 7-Eleven gives away around 500,000 gallons of Slurpees on this day. In Australia the free give away is on November 11th as the date there is written 7/11.
