Summertime Blues

"Summertime Blues" was co-written by rockabilly artist Eddie Cochran and his manager Jerry Capeheart in the late 1950's and released in August 1958. The song has been covered by many artists including The Who and Blue Cheer.
Summertime brings the same old warnings year after year. This summer the main focus seems to be on flip-flops aka thongs or slaps. I haven't been a regular wearer of flip-flops since I was a kid mainly because working on my feet gave me a lot of respect for proper footwear. The shoes I use as slippers are kind of like flip-flops but made of leather and have a slightly elevated heel that shifts the weight to a better balance. That is one of the problems with the rubber flip-flops is their flatness, which alters the way the wearer walks. The change in gait can cause foot, ankle and even toe pain from the way a wearer flexes the toes to hold the shoe on. A flip-flop wearer takes shorter, shuffling steps which in turn throws parts of the body into the motion that cause other imbalances and more pain. The bottom line? like anything you enjoy used in moderation flip-flops can still be enjoyed.
