People can get addicted to games and gambling the same as a person can be addicted to alcohol or drugs, the only difference is the chemicals involved. The need can be so overpowering it can drive a person to do things they otherwise wouldn't be likely to do. One example is a 61 year old grandmother in Arizona who was caught with 214 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of her car. The woman told jurors that her regular income was only $275 from a monthly welfare check, but she played bingo to try to supplement her income, and she was running the pot to pay for the bingo habit. We all know that even if she occasionally won a thousand dollars that in the long run she would end up losing. The jury decide her bingo addiction was not adequate reason to break the law. She faces 3-12 years in the state prison.
