Do You Give a Fig?

Today's offering is another one of those that came to me after things adding up. A while back I read something about how Fig Newton cookies were named after Newton,Massachusetts as was the habit of Kennedy Biscuits (later to become part of Nabisco) to name their creations after nearby towns. There is a rumor that they were named for Sir Isaac Newton, but it is just a rumor and not founded on fact. Now for part two of how today's post added up...from a different source I read how Fig Newtons gained popularity. Doctors at that time (1891) believed most illnesses started in the stomach. As a preventive measure they recommended a daily helping of biscuits (cookies) and Fig Newton fit the bill as a "digestive". So in conclusion have some cookies, they are good for your health!
