Hear Them Roar!

In honor of World Lion Day (today,8/10) here are a few things to help you know them better. A lion's age can be estimated by how dark their nose is,they get darker with age. Lions are unique for several reasons, they are the only cats with manes, the only cats who live in groups and the only cats who hunt cooperatively. There are around 300 Asiatic lions still living in India (they were once abundant) they are smaller than African lions and have less mane. Lions with darker manes are treated with more respect. There is a species of lion in Kenya where the males lack a mane. A hundred years ago there were over a million lions, today their population is somewhere between 35,000 -20,000.
